Dictys was the name of the good-hearted fisherman who raised Perseus and his mother Danae after rescuing them from their father's attempt at killing them. Dictys and his equally kind wife raised Perseus and Danae until Dictys's brother Polydectes fell in love with Danae.

After Perseus eliminates Polydectes by turning him to stone, Perseus makes Dictys king of his island. Dictys's wife also dies.
